Poker Success for Sheffield Business Club
South Yorkshire’s longest running independent business club lays its cards on the table at SUFC for its regular lunch time gathering before embarking on a major summer event with a difference.
Members and guests of Sheffield Business Club are invited along to the Bramall Lane’s 1889 Restaurant on 15 May 2008 at 12 noon for a relaxed lunchtime session of informal networking and a three course lunch. £21.00 Members – £25.00 Non-Members.
The organisation is also inviting members and guests to put their names forward if they want to take part in the club’s popular ‘three minute pitch’ to help promote their own business.
We welcome visitors so please contact Peter Rawlinson (Chair) and Partner at Wake Smith & Tofields on 0114 266 6660 for more information.
Poker success
The lunchtime event follows hot on the heels of Sheffield Business Club’s first poker night which took place in March.
Scores of members and guests had the chance to be some of the first people to road-test the brand new card room at Sheffield’s Napoleons Casino Ecclesall Road whilst raising money for St Luke’s Hospice.
A massive upsurge in interest around the game of poker has persuaded the popular venue to completely re-design its first floor to accommodate the demand for the game.
TV coverage of tournaments and the rise of on-line gambling has seen more and more people wanting to try out ‘the real deal’ in an actual casino and the recently completed work to Napoleons Casino Ecclesall is allowing the venue to hold over 150 tournaments a year.
Sheffield Business Club’s Casino Royale evening offered guests a drinks reception; three course meal with wine; poker lesson; poker tournament; networking and a chance to find out about the future plans of the city’s most successful and longest running venue of its kind.
Event organiser and Sheffield Business Club director Neil Anderson said: “We’re always on the look out for a event with a difference so the opportunity to be the first people to try out the new card room was a fantastic idea.
The inaugural Sheffield Business Club Poker Tournament trophy was won by none other than fellow director Kevin Elliott (who swore blind he’d never played before!) despite valiant work by colleagues from Nat West Bank, Hildred Design, Ovation Telecom, Knowles Warwick and others to grab the silverware and runners up prizes.
Summer event with a difference
Sheffield Business Club is also joining forces with Sheffield University’s Managing Directors’ Club for a BBQ Summer Event which will be held at the “Factory of the Future” site at the Advanced Manufacturing Park off the Parkway in June. Details will be published shortly.
Sheffield Business Club provides a forum for learning, inspiration and interaction to forward thinking owner managers and entrepreneurs by fostering a climate of camaraderie and mutual support between members, and is supported by Wake Smith Solicitors, Knowles Warwick, Yorkshire Bank, CRA Consultants, Watson Esam , Hildred Design and All Credit Media.
